If you’ve played Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain to the end you’ll have no doubt noticed something unusual: the conspicuous absence of missions 45 and 46. This is very deliberate and is another example of the 4th wall breaking style of the MGS franchise.
Discovering and playing through missions 45 and 46 is not easy but, for the gamer who wants to really finish The Phantom Pain, it is essential because it will unlock the game’s true ending, which will answer a lot of questions for those who were left a little confused at the end of normal story.
Heres how to do it:
Unlocking Mission 45
First you’ll need to unlock and complete Side Op 150. To unlock Side Op 150:
- Spare Quiet at the end of Mission 11.
- Have maximum Bond with Quiet.
- Complete all Missions up to 45.
- Exile Huey.
- Don’t use the front “Butterfly” design in your emblem.
Once you’ve done this Quiet will leave your party. She won’t return so, if you want her for Missions 47-50, keep the butterfly design and remove it later.
Quiet leaving will unlock Side Op 150. Once this Op is finished Mission 45 will start straight away so make sure you’re ready for it.
Unlocking Mission 46
Unlocking Mission 46 is the mark of a truly dedicated Metal Gear Solid fan so if you’re there I take my hat of to you! To have access to Mission 46 you first need to complete every other mission in the main story and also every yellow marked Side Op. Then you need to grind, improving Mother Base until it is upgraded to a certain level, at which point mission 46 unlocks.
We don’t want to detract from your experience of Mission 46 by giving away any spoilers, so lets just say prepare for a challenge and enjoy it!
