EA says the Star Wars Battlefront 2 beta’s contentious loot crate system was incomplete

Star Wars Battlefront 2 faced a wave of criticism last week, as players participating in the beta called out its loot box system as unfair and an example of ‘pay-to-win’ mechanics. With the beta now over, EA and DICE have addressed those complaints (and given a few examples of how the game will change based on player feedback) in a thank you post on the game’s website.

“The complete system was not in the Beta and will continue to be tuned over time,” the post reads, addressing the much-reviled crates. “Crates will include a mix of of Star Cards, Outfits, Emotes or Victory Poses. Players earn crates by completing challenges and other gameplay milestones, or by purchasing them with in-game credits or Crystals, our premium currency. If you get a duplicate Star Card in a crate, you will get crafting parts which you can then use to help upgrade the Star Card of your choice.”

EA said that players will still have to actually play the game in order to upgrade Star Cards and unlock Weapons via in-game experience, and that “the most powerful items” will be reserved for in-game achievements.

If you were less concerned with crate balance and more worried about the First Order Flametrooper, EA and DICE have revealed a few things they’re working on, including:
